I just thought it would be a fun way to introduce you to some of the tips and strategies from my book, Reboot Your Body: Unlocking the Genetic Secrets to Permanent Weight Loss. Let’s get started!

On the First Day of Wellness…

Today, simply swap out your white bread, white rice, white pasta, boxed cereal or instant oatmeal for whole grain varieties. Have some old fashioned or steel cut oats for breakfast; order your lunchtime sandwich on whole wheat, rye or pumpernickel; give brown rice or quinoa pasta a try. If you dine out today, look for whole grain options on the menu or ask your server.WholeGrains

Substituting whole grains for refined ones not only boosts the nutrient density and fiber content of your meals, but it can also increase your post-meal calorie burn. In a 2010 study published in the journal, Food & Nutrition Research, scientists found that when individuals ate a whole food meal (a cheese sandwich consisting of whole grain bread and cheddar cheese), they burned twice as many calories digesting the meal in the hours following consumption as when they ate the same meal made from processed foods (white bread and a processed cheese product). Take advantage of this “free” calorie burn today by making this one simple change to the way you eat.
