Holiday Wellness Challenge: Day 8

Fruits-and-VegetablesAhhh, Sunday! Around here Sundays are for relaxing, and one of my favorite relaxing activities is cooking. Maybe you don’t feel the same, but perhaps I can help.

If the word “cooking” conjures visions of stressed, haphazard meal preparation while your family keeps asking “When is dinner going to be ready?” then welcome to Sunday cooking. Sunday cooking happens when everyone else is busy doing their own Sunday thing and you have an hour to yourself in the kitchen. I like to put on some pleasant music and start with a pristine work surface. I take out my recipe and all of my ingredients and line them on the counter, then I prep everything before I turn on the stove or preheat the oven. When I do this, the stress of cooking evaporates like the liquid from the pot of slowly simmering goodness I’m about to create.

Today, on Day 8 of the 12 Days of Wellness Challenge, cook something delicious for yourself and your family. A healthy pot of soup or stew is a good idea, since it will provide meals for a few days, but it’s your Sunday, so you pick what you want to make. The goal here is to enjoy the process and to see that cooking can nourish not only your body, but your mind and soul as well.  Cooking your own food is an essential part of following a healthy diet.
