I don’t know about you, but my New Year’s Resolutions include a few diet-related target behaviors. Specifically, I’m trying to get back to a vegan diet (occasional eggs from our friend who owns a hobby farm being the one exception), significantly reduce sugar and processed carbs, and consume at least 70 grams of protein every day (100 once my marathon training is in full swing).
I’ve been scouring my cookbook shelf and my favorite recipe web sites over the past few days, looking for a collection of meals that will help me meet all of these goals. In doing so, I was reminded of two recipe blogs that are so wonderful, I had to share them with you. (NOTE: Not for vegans only! I guarantee that omnivores will find these recipes to be delicious, and they’re super healthy!)
First up is Raechel the rebel grrrl. This blog is about a lot more than just food and recipes, and that’s why I love it. Her insights are fresh and different, occasionally controversial, but in a way that makes you think about the world from a perspective other than your own. Her recipes are delicious and unique – not merely “new” versions of the same 20 meals in every vegan cookbook that’s ever been written. That doesn’t mean they’re hard to make though – I have yet to try one with more than a dozen ingredients, including spices. As a bonus, almost all of them are both vegan and gluten-free. You can check out this awesome blog at rebelgrrlkitchen.com.
The other blog I absolutely love is pretty much all about the food (and a little bit about a new baby). I usually get annoyed with recipe posts that are a yard long because they have so many photos in them (just get to the recipe, already!) but Angela of Oh She Glows! takes such great photos of such amazing food, I’m happy to overlook this minor inconvenience. This is my go-to site when I want to search for a recipe by ingredient or occasion, because there are hundreds of recipes here. She also has a cookbook out (and a second one in the works) for those who like to have their recipes at arm’s reach. I can’t say enough good things about this site – you should just see for yourself. Start with this post, which I am going to be working my way through, one recipe at a time, over the next month or two.
I get a lot of questions from clients and friends about what I eat to fuel my workouts and stay fit. Now you know!
